Dishwasher Madness

March Madness, I will have to admit, basketball watching on a regular basis is not my favorite. I don’t mind

watching live, but I guess that just means I like all of the excitement of the fans being around me.

To do a little continuation of our mad, crazy things that drive us nuts in our homes. How does the topic of dishwashers sit with you? I will have to admit that I never had a ‘new’ dishwasher until about 10 years ago. The only reason I got the ‘new’ dishwasher was because the existing one was literally 30 years old. It cleaned nothing! It really was just a glorified drying rack.

Once we got the new dishwasher…..ahhhh! Oh my goodness, I really will have to admit that having a new dishwasher is pretty awesome. Quite frankly, I found the picture of the dog in the dishwasher, but one of our dogs would have done a better job cleaning the dishes than that original dishwasher.

A new dishwasher is not exactly cheap, especially if you are going for a filter systems, quietness, water or energy efficiency. I will guarantee that if your dishwasher is over 10 years old, any upgrade will most likely be better than what you have. I will have to admit I put just about everything inside of my dishwasher, if it is even remotely ‘dishwasher safe’ it is going in.

One exception to that rule is my knives. My grandparents on both sides were butchers. Therefore all knives must be hand washed and dried, sharp at all times and ready to use. In all seriousness, if you have a halfway decent set of knives or are limping your existing ones along, dishwasher detergent is a killer on knives. The harsh additives to clean all that gunk off your dishes will dull your knives, so keep them out.

Happy washing!
